On May 16, 2020 Town Brewery partnered up with outdoor apparel giants Filson to brew a big IPA with the goal of planting a tree for every beer sold.
In past collaborations Town Brewery has partnered with both The Nature Conservancy of Canada as well as The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup so working with Filson (who has an ongoing relationship with The National Forest Foundation) to make a tree planting beer seemed to be the perfect fit for two businesses who care deeply about the future of our planet.
Since 1897 Filson has been the "gold standard" for tough, comfortable outdoor clothing prized by hunters, anglers, engineers, explorers, miners and anyone who has a passion for the outdoors. "At Filson, we feel it is necessary to serve as stewards for a healthy environment. We are committed to supporting outdoor organizations with the mission of sustaining & promoting outdoor recreation".
The resulting brew was a big, juicy IPA featuring Mosaic, Sabro and Waimea hops and named after the organization in charge of actually planting the trees. One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization dedicated to global reforestation. Their mission is to reforest the planet, one tree at a time. Started in 2014, One Tree Planted works with awesome reforestations partners in North America, South America, Asia, and Africa who help them get trees in the ground to restore forests after fires and floods, create jobs, build communities, and protect habitat for biodiversity.
One Tree Planted IPA was released at the height of the first wave of Covid 19 and since we were lucky enough to have a supportive local fanbase, we sold out of the beer in under a week. We donated $1 from every tall can sold and ended up planting thousands of trees in Ontario through OneTreePlanted.org.
